Germany and San Marino both won their matches today to set up a fifth-place play-off encounter at the Beach Tennis World Team Championship in Moscow.

The Germans secured their spot in the match by beating Japan 3-0 on WTC - Court 1 at the National Tennis Centre in Russia's capital.

Maraike Biglmaier and Laura Kemkes set them on their way to success by beating Misa Miyasaka and Tomomi Takahashi 6-0, 4-6, 13-11 in the women's doubles.

Manuel and Benjamin Ringlstetter then defeated Naoaki Yamamoto and Satoshi Goda 6-3, 7-5 in the men's doubles before Sarah Bolsmann and Alexander Bailer overcame Shiomi Nakagawa and Susumu Nakajima 5-3, 4-2 in the mixed doubles.

San Marino, meanwhile, advanced to the fifth-place play-off with a 2-1 win over Estonia on WTC - Court 2.

Alice Grandi and Marika Colonna beat Eneli and Katlin Lattik 7-5, 6-1 in the women's doubles and victory was sealed when Nicolo Bombini and Alvise Galli defeated Ainar Laube and Priit Pihl 6-1, 6-3 in the men's doubles.

Estonia's consolation point came courtesy of a 1-4, 5-4, 4-1 win for Eneli Lattik and Pihl against Colonna and Galli.

They are due to face Japan in the seventh-place play-off.

Venezuela and Poland are scheduled to contest the ninth-place playoff after the former beat Aruba 3-0 and the latter defeated Latvia 2-1.

The semi-finals between Italy and Russia, and France and Brazil are set for tomorrow along with all the remaining play-off matches.
