Quarter-final action in basketball and football were the focus at the European Universities Games in Coimbra today.

French universities were impressive in women's basketball in the Portuguese city.

The University of Toulouse booked their place in the semi-finals by beating the Tadeusz Kosciuszko Cracow University of Technology 62-58.

There was also victory for the University of Strasbourg, who secured a 74-62 win over the University of Pitesti.

A strong performance also saw the University of Valencia clinch a 85-59 win against the Bahceshir University from Turkey.

There was victory for the Technical University of Munich in the women’s football quarter-finals, as they earned a 4-1 against the University of Lausanne.

The University of Frankfurt won 4-3 against the University of Toulouse, while Siberian Federal University clinched a 5-2 win over the University of Vienna.

The final women’s football quarter-final saw the University of Montpellier win 5-2 against the University of Valencia.

Futsal and rugby sevens competition also continued at the Games, with the latter set to conclude tomorrow.

It will be the penultimate day of the Games, which will conclude on Saturday (July 28).
