Joachim Gerard, the number two seed, has made it through to the third round of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Belgian Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in comfortable fashion, by beating his compatriot Jef Vandorpe in Jambes today.

The Rio 2016 bronze medallist won 6-3, 6-3, having received a bye in the first round.

It means he is still on track for his first ITF tour win on home soil at the Tennis Club Geronsart.

Elsewhere in the men's singles, the number six seed Kouhei Suzuki from Japan beat another Belgian Joeri van Assche 6-0, 6-1.

Thanks to that win, Suzuki will now face the number one seed Gustavo Fernandez from Argentina in the quarter-finals, after he beat Lhaj Boukartacha from Morocco 6-0, 6-0.

Gerard's next opponent will be the Frenchman Frederic Catteneo, after he beat his compatriot Laurent Everaert today for the loss of just one game.

In the women's singles the second seed, fifth seed and seventh seed all played today.

Germany's Sabine Ellerbrook, the number two seed, cruised into the quarter-finals with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nalani Buob from Switzerland.

She will now play the United States' Dana Matthewson, the seventh seed, in the last eight.

She thrashed another American Elizabeth Williams 6-0, 6-1 to set up the tie.

The fifth seed Giulia Capocci from Italy also won her match today for the loss of just one game, beating Japan's Kanako Domori.

She will now play the Dutch number one seed Aniek van Koot in the quarter-finals.

In the men's quad singles the semi-final line up is now confirmed.

David Wagner, the number one seed from the US, will play Japan's Koji Sugeno in the top half of the draw.

While in the bottom half of the draw Bryan Barten from the US will play the number two seed Heath Davidson from Australia.
