Mexico's Daniela Rodriguez called for poomsae taekwondo to be accepted onto the Olympic programme after winning gold at the Central American And Caribbean Games.

Rodriguez, who has only been practicing taekwondo since 2009, scored 94.00 to clinch the title at the multi-sport event in Barranquilla in Colombia.

Puerto Rico's Arelis Medina and Maria Guillen from Costa Rica won silver and bronze respectively

After her victory, Rodriguez said it was her dream to be an Olympian with only kyorugi taekwondo part of the Games programme at present.

Instead of being able to concentrate on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, she has put her focus on the Pan American Games in Peru's capital Lima next year.

"This discipline is already in place for the Pan American Games next year," she said, as reported by Telesur.

"Of course, we are going to go.

"Unfortunately, it has not come to Tokyo yet, but the dream is there.

"Since I was a child, I always proposed it and I hope I can be in the Olympic Games."
