Switzerland's Jonas Egger and Norway's Marie Olaussen won the respective men's and women's long-distance events as action continued today at the World University Orienteering Championships in Kuortane in Finland.

Egger completed the men's 12.4 kilometres course in 1 hour 11min 23sec, beating nearest challenger Paul Sirum of Norway by a margin of 31 seconds.

Norway's Håvard Haga rounded out the podium in 1:12:15.

In the women's 9.7km race, Olaussen triumphed with a time of 1:13:18.

Sweden's Johanna Öberg finished 41 seconds behind in the runners-up spot.

Switzerland's Paula Gross was two-and-a-half minutes off the pace in third.

The Championships are scheduled to conclude with a relay event tomorrow.

Organisers will hold a Closing Ceremony after the final competition.

A total of 34 World University Championships are being held in 2018.

The events were awarded by the International University Sports Federation.
