The Netherlands won the Under-21 World Korfball Championships in Budapest after defeating rivals Belgium in the final.

The Dutch, the mixed sport's traditional superpower, were 21-18 winners at the Tüskecsarnok venue in the Hungarian capital.

Both countries had already met in the pool stage when The Netherlands also won, 21-14.

It was closer in the gold medal game but the orange-shirted side proved too strong despite a nervy beginning from both teams.

Leander Zwolle was the player of the match for the Dutch in their success.

Elsewhere, a tightly-contested bronze medal game saw Chinese Taipei pip Portugal 18-16 to end on the podium.

Hosts Hungary ended their tournament with a narrow loss in the fifth-place play-off against China.

The match finished 19-19 but the Chinese then won with a golden goal.

A total of 12 nations initially entered the event before the Dominican Republic withdrew due to financial problems.

The International Korfball Federation said they would not replace them, meaning Pool A had just five teams.
