Australia’s Jessica Fox has continued her rampaging start to the 2018 International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom World Cup season with another gold medal today in Kraków.

The 24-year-old won both the C1 and K1 events on the opening weekend of the World Cup season in Liptovský Mikuláš in Slovakia and followed it up with K1 gold on the Polish city’s Kolna Regatta Course.

She had allowed her competitors a glimmer of hope when she was only able to qualify 17th fastest for the semi-finals, but then put in an excellent run to qualify second quickest for the final.

Fox finished the final in 1min 31.51sec, beating surprise silver medallist Lucie Baudu of France by a margin of 0.89 seconds.

Italy’s Stefanie Horn was a further 0.03 seconds back in third.

"It's such a difficult course and quite hard on the arms," Fox said.

"I didn't go as fast as my semi-final, but I was clean and tidy with no major mistakes and a sprint to the finish.

"I'm so thrilled to win again.

"I can't believe it."

Germany's Ricarda Funk registered a rare finish outside the top three.

Although she was easily the quickest paddler on the course in the K1 final, Funk picked up four seconds in penalties to leave her 2.41 seconds behind Fox in fifth place.

In the men's C1 final, three-time Olympic silver medallist David Florence of Great Britain celebrated a long overdue return to the top of the podium.

Florence, who was also fastest in the semi-final, posted a time of 1:23.86 to edge out Slovakia’s Alexander Slafkovský by 0.27 seconds.

Czech Republic's Michal Jáně took the bronze medal, finishing 0.56 seconds back.

Olympic gold medallist Denis Gargaud Chanut missed out on the final after picking up a 50-second penalty for a missed gate and finished 28th.

Germany's Sideris Tasiadis, a winner in Liptovský Mikuláš last week, finished 19th in the semi-final.

The mixed C2 final saw Czech Republic's Tereza Fišerová and Jakub Jáně triumph with a time of 1:45.92.

Slovakia's Soňa Stanovská and Ján Bátik, the gold medallists in Liptovský Mikuláš, finished eight seconds behind in the runners-up spot.

Home favourites Aleksandra Stach and Marcin Pochwała were 8.67 seconds back in claiming the bronze medal.

Today’s results mean Fox is a clear leader in the overall K1 World Cup standings, while Slafkovský heads the men's C1 after consecutive silver medals.

Stanovská and Bátik lead the mixed C2 following their gold and silver medals.

Action in Kraków is due to conclude tomorrow.
