Top seed Beiwen Zhang came from a game down to book her place in the U.S. Open Badminton Championships at Fullerton in California.

The American came through a challenging test from Japan’s Aya Ohori at the Badminton World Federation Super 300 event.

A closely contested opening game was won by Ohori, with the fourth seed edging her opponent 22-20 at the Titan Gym on the campus of California State University.

Both players continued to be evenly matched, so it was fitting that Zhang took it to a decider by winning the second game 23-21.

The momentum of the match swung in favour of the American, who clinched the decider impressively 21-13 to book her spot in the final.

Zhang is now set to face China’s Li Xuerui, after the London 2012 Olympic champion beat Canada's Michelle Li in straight games 21-17, 21-17.

South Korea's Lee Dong Keun triumphed in a thrilling men’s singles semi-final against Thailand's Khosit Phetpradab, who was the highest seed left in the competition.

Lee was able to claim a 21-19, 15-21, 21-18 victory to reach the final.

He will now face Mark Caljouw, who saw off the challenge of India's Ajay Jayaram.

The Dutch player produced an impressive display to earn a 21-13, 23-21 victory.

China's Ou Xuanyi and Xiangyu Ren emerged as the winners of their men's doubles semi-final.

The duo overcame South Korea's Jung Jae Wook and Jae Hwan Kim by a 21-16, 21-18 scoreline.

Mink Hyuk Kang and Kim Won Ho of South Korea, who beat Canada’s Jason Anthony Ho-Shue and Nyl Yakura 21-17, 21-14, also went through.

Japan's Naoko Fukuman and Kurumi Tonao, top seeds in the women's doubles competition, suffered defeat in their semi-final.

They were beaten 21-16, 21-10 by South Korea's Kim Hye Jeong and Kim So Yeong.

The South Korean pairing will now face China's Tang Jinhua and Yu Xiaohan, who they beat Chow Mei Kuan and Vivian Hoo 21-17, 22-20.

In the mixed doubles competition, Germany's Marvin Emil Seidel and Linda Efler eased to victory in their last four encounter with England's Ben Lane and Jessica Pugh.

The pairing combined to good effect to triumph 21-17, 21-8.

Malaysia's Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying won the second semi-final, overcoming second seeds Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich of Germany 21-16, 21-14.
