Iran shooter Sareh Javanmardi has narrowly prevailed in the Allianz International Paralympic Committee contest for Athlete of the Month for May.

The double Paralympic champion claimed two titles at the World Championships in Chengdu.

She overcame a penalty deduction to win the the P2 women's 10 metre air pistol SH1 and then beat an otherwise all-male field to gold in the P4 mixed 50m pistol SH1 event.

Javanmardi received 41 per cent of the vote to narrowly defeat Ukrainian powerlifter Mariana Shevchuk, with 38 per cent.

Belgian wheelchair racer Peter Genyn came third with 14 per cent.

Brazilian equestrian rider Rodolpho Riskalla and Canadian judoka Priscilla Gagne were also nominated.

Shevchuk had set a world record of 130.5 kilograms in the women's under-55kg class at the European Open Championships in France.

Genyn had achieved a pair of world records at the Nottwil Grand Prix in Switzerland.

He first clocked 20.07sec in the men's T51 100 metres before following that up with a time of 1min 17.21sec in the T51 400m.

Gagne won home under-52kg gold at the International Blind Sport Federation's Pan American Championships in Calgary.

Riskalla came top in the team test and individual and third in the freestyle dressage at the Maimarkt competition in Mannheim in Germany.
