Qiu Bo and Chen Yiwen also struck gold for the host nation as they triumphed in the mixed team competition.

The Chinese pair recorded a total score of 406.20 from their six dives to ensure they topped the podium ahead of Oleg Kolodiy and Sofiia Lyskun of Ukraine.

"I made a mistake in one of the dives as I was too much in a rush," said Qiu.

"But in general, we have improved a lot compared to last year in the FINA World Championships in Budapest, where we placed sixth and performed terribly."

The World Cup in Wuhan continues tomorrow.
