Riding Admara 2, the 53-year-old recorded a time of 64.99 seconds to claim the gold medal.

Earlier this year, Lopez attracted controversy after Admara 2 demonstrated an extreme reaction to her Lopez's hind boots.

This led to the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) banning hind boots for the foreseeable future.

As reported by Horse and Hound, FEI jumping director John Roche said: “We’ve decided to get rid of hind boots that enhance performance over a staggered period of time,”

“This will create a situation where riders compete under fair and equal conditions.

“One could definitely consider that this [horse’s action] was totally exaggerated and for sure that’s something we’ll be taking up with this particular rider.”

Egyptian Sameh El Dahan, riding Suma's Zorro, was second with a time of 66.69 today whilst Spain's Sergio Alvarez Moya, riding Charmeur, rounded off the podium with a time of 67.92.

Tomorrow sees riders head to St Gallen in Switzerland for the latest qualifier for Europe Division 1 of the Longines FEI Nations Cup.

Riders will be looking to help their nations qualify for October's final at the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona.

Switzerland currently lead the standings on 180 points, followed by Ireland on 145 and Spain on 115.

The host nation's hopes are likely to rest on London 2012 Olympic champion Steve Guerdat whilst Ireland will hope good performances from Denis Lynch, a gold medallist at the 2017 European Championships in Gothenburg, and Billy Twomey will see them close the gap on the leaders.

The event in St Gallen will also see Great Britain make their entry into league competition with their team consisting of William Whitaker, Samuel Hutton, Harriet Nuttall, Louise Saywell and Holly Smith.
