Argentina claimed the men’s volleyball title at the 2018 South American Games after beating Chile in today’s final in Cochabamba in Bolivia.

Their triumph was sealed with a 27-29, 26-24, 25-17, 23-25, 15-12 win at the Coliseo José Casto Méndez.

Argentina and Chile were contesting the final having finished in first and second place respectively in the round-robin group phase.

Fourth-placed Venezuela defeated third-placed Colombia 20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17 in the bronze medal match. 

Among the other sports in which medals were won today was racquetball at the Complejo Polifuncional de Sarco.

Home favourite Conrrado Kevin Moscoso Ortiz overcame Venezuela’s Mario Osvaldo Mercado 15-10, 11-15, 11-6 in the men’s singles final.

There was disappointment for the host nation in the women’s singles final, however, as Yasmine Sabja Aliss lost 4-15, 6-15 to Argentina’s Maria Jose Vargas Parada.

Fencing competition concluded today with Venezuela beating Argentina 45-41 in the men’s team sword final at the FEICOBOL.

They also defeated the same opponents by the same scoreline in the women’s team sabre final.

The sole day of open water swimming competition saw Ecaudor claim the two gold medals at the Cabaña del Arquitecto Laguna.

Esteban José Enderica Salgado won the men’s 10 kilometres event with a time of 1 hour 52min 01.52sec, while Samantha Michelle Arévalo Salinas came out on top in the women’s equivalent in 2:05:49.00.
