Defending champions The Netherlands breezed into the second round of the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt.

World number one Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld crushed Gibraltar 5-0 in the best of nine legs doubles affair at the Eissporthalle in the German city.

The Dutch, seeded third, averaged 102.95 as Gibraltar's Dyson Parody and Justin Broton languished on 66.38.

Second seeds England also progressed but faced a tougher examination against Czech Republic.

Reigning Professional Darts Corporation world champion Rob Cross and Dave Chisnall beat Karel Sedláček and Roman Benecky 5-3.

Elsewhere, Singapore clinched a 5-3 win over New Zealand and Belgium edged Ireland 5-4.

Hosts Germany also went through 5-3 against Sweden while Northern Ireland pipped Poland 5-4. 

Finland thrashed Greece 5-1 and South Africa beat Hungary 5-3. 

The second round matches will be played tomorrow.
