Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallists Joe Townsend and Jade Jones-Hall will be vying for success on home soil tomorrow when Eton Dorney in England plays host to the latest leg of the 2018 International Triathlon Union (ITU) Para-triathlon World Cup.

Townsend and Jones-Hall won the respective men’s and women’s PTWC titles at Gold Coast 2018, where Para-triathlon events were contested for the first time ever at a Commonwealth Games.

They will be looking to continue their good form when they compete in and around Dorney Lake, which hosted the London 2012 Olympic rowing competition.

"The year has started brilliantly for me; the Commonwealth Games was a great experience," Jones-Hall said.

"This weekend is special too as racing at home is not something we get to do very often.

"I’m looking forward to it."

The line-up for the one-day event features six of the medal winners from the ITU World Para-triathlon Series leg in Yokohama in Japan earlier this month.

Paralympic bronze medallist Melissa Stockwell of the United States will be also gracing the start line in Eton Dorney, while France and Germany are sending strong teams, led by Yannick Bourseaux and Paralympic gold medallist Martin Schulz respectively.

Paralympic champion Andy Lewis of Great Britain is starting his season after injury niggles kept him out of Yokohama.

Having won Paralympic, world and European titles, the PTS2 competitor is excited to return to his roots with the race running alongside the Arctic One Para-triathlon Festival event for novices.

"This is the first race of the season for me and I am definitely ready to get out there and see what I can do after a previous injury," Lewis said.

"This is where it all started for me with an Arctic One event in 2014 and it’s just brilliant that we now have an ITU race here alongside that."

Other Paralympic medallists set to compete in the race are Britain’s Lauren Steadman and Alison Patrick.

In-form George Peasgood will be carrying a lot of momentum after winning in the PTS5 race in Yokohama, as will fellow Britons Steve Crowley and Dave Ellis, the world champion, in the PTS4 and PTVI categories respectively.

There will also be new talent on show, including PTS4 athlete Hannah Moore, who has made huge strides over the winter.

Dorney Lake provides a flat and fast closed-circuit course and easy access for spectators to see all three Para-triathlon disciplines.
