Belgium’s Peter Genyn smashed his second world record in three days as competition came to an end at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Nottwil in Switzerland.

Racing in the men’s 400 metres T51 event, Genyn took nearly a second off his previous best with a time of 1min 17.21sec at the Swiss Paraplegic Centre.

It comes after the Paralympic and world champion broke the men’s 100m T51 world record on Friday (May 25).

"It shows the form that I am in and it’s a great feeling," the 41-year-old said.

"I’m very pleased with it."

Portugal’s Helder Mestre finished second in 1:24.05, while Costa Rica’s Ernesto Fonseca came third in 1:35.10

There was also a European record broken today with Great Britain’s Richard Chiassaro looking in superb form on his way to a clear victory in the men’s 400m T54.

The world bronze medallist clocked a time of 45.26.

The United States' Daniel Romanchuk finished second in 46.39, while China’s Zhang Yong came third in 46.55.

Chiassaro’s fellow Briton Hannah Cockroft notched up her fourth gold medal of the meeting with a straightforward win in the women’s 400m T34.

Cockfort crossed the line in 57.89 with Belgium’s Joyce Lefevre second in 1:11.11 and Britain’s Paige Murray third in 1:15.50.

The equivalent men’s event saw the United Arab Emirates’ Mohamed Alhammadi come out on top in 51.48, followed by Britain’s Ben Rowlings in 53.81 and then Finland’s Henry Manni in 54.27.

Multiple Paralympic and world champion Tatyana McFadden of the US won the women’s 400m T54 in 54.35, beating home favourite Manuela Schaer by 0.57 seconds.

Australia’s Eliza Ault-Connell rounded out the podium in 56.97.

Compatriot Madison de Rozario completed a superb hat-trick of wins on the Swiss track with victory in the women’s 5,000m T53-T54.

The 24-year-old, who won the 5,000m T54 world title last year, was up against a typically strong field including US duo McFadden and Susannah Scaroni as well as Schaer.

The quartet quickly pulled clear from the rest of the field, but it was De Rozario who took to the front in the final few laps and crossed the line first in 11:22.35.

Schaer finished second in 11:22.56, while Scaroni came third in 11:22.58.

De Rozario, who is coached by Australia’s former great Louise Sauvage, has been a regular face at the top of the podium this year, winning double gold at her home Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast as well as taking first place at the London Marathon.

Out in the field, Poland’s Joanna Hantzschel won the women’s shot put F33 with a best throw of 4.80m.

Fellow countrywoman Dorota Szymula finished second with 4.07m, while Czech Republic’s Anna Marcanikova came third with 3.87m.

Current world number one Erica Maria Castano Salazar of Colombia threw a best of 6.63m in the women’s shot put F55 class and The Netherlands' Lara Baars managed 19.69m in the women’s discus F40.

Germany’s Thomas Ulbricht registered a throw of 44.37m in the men’s javelin F12, while Singapore’s Muhammad Diroy Noordin managed 26.02m in the men’s javelin F40.

In the long jump, there were wins for Dutchman Ronald Hertog in the men’s F64 with 6.80m, France’s Valentin Bertrand in the men’s F37 with 5.42m and Turkey’s Akin Gokhan in the men’s F46 with 5.33m.

The next leg of the 2018 World Para Athletics Grand Prix series is due to take place in France’s capital Paris on June 14 and 15.
