New Zealand have selected their men's and women's squads for this year's World University Orienteering Championships in Finland.

Six athletes will represent the country between July 17 and 21 in Kuortane.

Jonty Oram, Tim Robertson and Kieran Woods will represent the Kiwis in the men's squad.

On the women's side, Marina Comeskey, Tegan Knightbridge and Heidi Stolberger will be New Zealand's representatives.

All of the athletes picked will compete in the sprint, middle and long distance races.

Oram is a graduate of the 2016 World Championships in Hungary.

"My experience in Hungary taught me how much I need to train to get up there with the top international runners," he said.

"The transition from junior world champs to world university champs was another step up for us Kiwis.

"I have higher expectations of myself the second time around and I'm better prepared for what it takes.

"The terrain should be quite flat, which suits me.

"It will be important for me to stay focused for the whole race and to nail the technical component, as well as believing in myself that I have the physical fitness to pull it off."
