Switzerland and Norway celebrated relay success as the European Orienteering Championships continued in Ticino in Switzerland.

The host nation prevailed in the women’s relay event, with Judith Wyder producing an impressive leg for the first of the two Swiss teams.

Elena Roos was unable to hold on to the advantage as she reached the next changeover one minute behind the second Swiss squad, who benefited from an excellent leg from Simona Aebersold.

The lead would change hands again on the final leg, with Julia Gross coming past the second Swiss team to win the race in a time of 1hr 45min 56sec.

With only one team per nation able to secure a podium finish, the second Switzerland team missed out on a medal.

The silver was instead earned by Sweden’s Lina Strand, Sara Hagstrom and Karolin Ohlsson, who finished two minutes and 11 seconds behind the winners.

Bronze was claimed by Denmark’s Cecilie Friberg Klysner, Ida Bobach and Maja Alm, after they ended a further two seconds back.
