Russia’s Anastasia Bratchikova ensured home fans went home with something to smile about by claiming the women’s under 68 kilogram title at the European Wrestling Championships in Kaspiysk.

The 29-year-old made it two European Championship golds in two years following her victory last year in the Serbian city of Novi Sad by beating France’s Koumba Larroque 3-1 by VPO1 on home soil today.

Martina Kuenz of Austria and Turkey's Buse Tosun shared bronze.

Unfortunately for the hosts, this was where the glory ended as Olympic bronze medallist Ekaterina Bukina lost by a convincing 8-2 VP01 scoreline to Turkey's Yasemin Adar in the final of the under 76kg event.

Azerbaijan's Sabira Aliyeva and Vasilisa Marzaliuk of Belarus shared bronze.

Earlier in the day, Azerbaijan's three-time Olympic medallist Mariya Stadnik added a seventh European Championship title to her collection with a convincing victory in the 10-0 VSU victory against Emilia Alina Vuc of Romania.

Milana Dadasheva of Russia and Turkey's Evin Demirhan shared bronze.

Iryna Kurachkina of Belarus beat Poland's Marta Zasina in the 55kg final by VPO1 after a close contest that ended 4-4 draw in regulation time.

Turkey and Russia once again shared the bronze medal thanks to Bediha Gun and Mariia Gurova, respectively.

Elif Jale Yesilirmak of Turkey secured the first European title of her career after she beat Bulgaria's Mimi Nikolova Hristova by a 6-4 VPO1 scoreline in the 59kg event.

Azerbaijan's Tetiana Omelchenko and Russia's Svetlana Lipatova shared bronze.

Tomorrow is due to see the finals of the 53kg, 57kg, 62kg, 65kg and 72kg women’s wrestling events take place.
