The 27-year-old, winner of Olympic gold medals at both London 2012 and Rio 2016, beat Serbia’s Viktor Nemes by a comfortable 5-1, 3-1 by VPO1 scoreline to ensure he finished top of the podium before a sell-out crowd at the Ali Aliyev Sport Complex.

Azerbaijan's Elvin Murrsaliyev and Hungary's Tamás Lőrincz won the bronze medals. 

Vlasov's win, however, was the only success the home fans saw as the other Russian athletes competing in finals today both lost.

Bekkan Ozdoev lost 3-2, 3-1 by VPO1, to Georgia's Roberti Kobliashvili in the 87kg final and Vitalii Shchur suffered a 2-1, 3-1 by VPO1, defeat to Turkey's Riza Kayaalp in the 130kg final.

The 87kg bronze medal was won by Germany's Denis Maksymilian Kudla and Sweden's Kristoffer Zakarias Berg.

The 130kg bronze medals were won by Romania's Alin Alexuc Ciurariu and Georgia's Iakobi Kajaia.

The only finals that did not include Russian athlete were those in the 55kg and the 63kg categories.

The 55kg final was won by Azerbaijan's Eldaniz Azizli, who thrashed Estonia's Helary Maegisalu by an 8-0, 4-0 by VSU scoreline.

Turkey's Ekrem Öztürk  and Georgia's Nugzai Trsurtsumia won the bronz medals.

Romania's Mihai Radu Mihut claimed the 63kg title with a 3-2, 3-1 by VP01, win over Norway's Stig-Andrew Berge.

Moldova's Donior Islamov and Russia's Zaur Kabaloev won the bronze medals.

Earlier, the official Opening Ceremony for the Championship had taken place. 

"We are very impressed with these European Championships," said United World Wrestling president Nenad Lalovic. 

"This is one of the most important tournaments of our calendar and the organisers here along with the Russian Wrestling Federation and the people of Kaspiysk have made us and Dagestan proud. 

"The event is being well-managed and is enjoyable for fans and athletes."

Tomorrow sees the finals of the Greco-Roman 60kg, 67kg, 72kg, 82kg and 97kg are scheduled to take place.
