France’s Magda Wiet-Henin justified her status as one of the favourites for victory in the women’s under-62 kilograms category as action continued today at the World Taekwondo President’s Cup for the Europe region in Athens.

Wiet-Henin, the 2016 European silver medallist, beat Croatia’s Ivana Babic 5-2 in the final at the Greek capital's Ano Liosia Olympic Indoor Hall.

World number one İrem Yaman of Turkey was earlier forced to withdraw from her round-of-16 match with Babic due to injury.

Moldova’s Ana Ciuchitu and Russia’s Kristina Prokudina were the bronze medallists.

In the women’s under-73kg final, Turkey’s Nafia Kuş, the 2015 world bronze medallist, defeated two-time European champion Iva Radoš of Croatia 7-2.

Radoš' compatriot Doris Pole was joined on the third step of the podium by Germany’s Yanna Schneider.

Also tasting success today was Russia’s Roman Kuznetsov as the 2017 world bronze medallist overcame France’s Yoann Miangue 13-3 in the men’s over-87kg final.

Rounding out the podium were Russia’s Oleg Kuznetcov and Canada’s Marc Andre Bergeron.

There was an all-Croatian final in the men’s under 74kg category with Toni Kanaet, the 2016 European silver medallist, beating Marko Mutak 14-11.

Winning the bronze medals were Spain’s Ramon Ruiz Domenech and the United States’ Jaysen Ishida.

The World Taekwondo President’s Cup for the Europe region is being held for the third time.

It is organised by World Taekwondo Europe and supported by the South Greek Taekwondo Union.

Action in Athens is due to conclude tomorrow.

The men’s under-63kg and women’s over-73kg categories are set to take centre stage.
