Hosts Zimbabwe experienced mixed fortunes on the opening day of the 2018 All-Africa Korfball Championship in Chitungwiza, winning one and losing one of their two matches.

The home nation opened the tournament by beating Zambia 19-5 at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex.

But they went onto suffer a 20-16 defeat at the hands of South Africa.

The three countries are initially competing in a round-robin group stage.

The top two teams are due to meet in the final on Sunday (April 29).

Action is due to continue tomorrow with South Africa firstly facing Zimbabwe and then going up against Zambia.

Qualification for next year’s World Championship is up for grabs with one place on offer.

As the World Championship will be held in South Africa, they have already qualified automatically as hosts and therefore only the highest-ranked team besides them will earn a berth.
