Victoria Gosling, who organised the 2016 Invictus Games in Florida, has been appointed as the new chief executive of British Ski and Snowboard (BSS), it has been announced.

She replaces Dave Edwards, who announced last year that, after eight years in the role, he would step down following the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

A former group captain in the Royal Air Force (RAF), Gosling was chief executive for the Invictus Games, the international adaptive multi-sport event, created by Prince Harry, for wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel, in Orlando two years ago.

"We were thrilled with the high-quality field of applicants attracted to this critical role at a pivotal moment in our development," BSS chairman Rory Tapner said.

"Vicky Gosling was the standout candidate in a strong field and we are delighted she has agreed to join BSS.

"A successful 2018 Winter Olympics is only the start of the building programme and Vicky will help us accelerate and reinforce our plans and ambitions.

"We could not be more pleased.

“She takes the reins from Dave Edwards who has overseen huge growth in the organisation since 2010, and on behalf of the Board I thank Dave for all his hard work and dedication."

Gosling's military career in the RAF featured highly successful operational, strategic and leadership roles.

She played a crucial executive role in the organisation and breakout success of the inaugural Invictus Games in London in 2014, going on to become chief executive for the following event in Orlando two years later.

"We are delighted that Vicky Gosling has accepted this challenging and exciting role with BSS at a time when their level of ambition continues to grow," said Liz Nicholl, chief executive of UK Sport.

"Her commercial flare and track record will bring additional experience and drive to an increasingly successful sports governing body."

British skiers and snowboarders won two Olympic bronze medals at Pyeongchang 2018.

They were skier Izzy Atkin in women's slopestyle and snowboarder Billy Morgan in the men's big air.

"I’m thrilled to be joining British Ski and Snowboard at such an exciting time for snowsports in this country," Gosling said.

"The success of the team in Pyeongchang was there for everyone to see, but so much goes on behind the scenes to enable our athletes to be contenders on the international stage.

"The organisation has made some great strides in the last couple of years in particular, but there’s plenty more to do if we are to deliver on the plan to become one of the top five snowsports nations by 2030.

"I’m really looking forward to getting on with the job and making sure we’ve got the right funding, programmes and support in place to deliver on that plan."
