Khan, who will be representing Pakistan for the first time in Delhi, added he is hoping to secure victory at the Commonwealth Games as a way of repaying the faith that Pakistan have showed in him.

"He said: "I’m eyeing the gold medal and I’m confident that I can win it for Pakistan, which is the home of my ancestors.

"I feel the need to give something back to Pakistan which gave me the opportunity to compete at the Commonwealth Games.

"Every day when I wake up and see Amir’s medals, only one thing comes to my mind - one day I’d also be able to win medals.

"My brother’s success gives me the determination and belief that with endeavour one can achieve their goals."

Khan also dismissed the notion that he will abandon Pakistan to join up with England should he be successful in India.

He said: "It’s not correct.

"I will always play for Pakistan and will not represent some other country.

"I won’t represent England because Pakistan approached me first and there is no question about that."

Meanwhile, England have received a blow with the news that their major boxing gold medal hope for the Commonwealth Games, Khalid Yafai, has become the latest athlete to withdraw due to a long-standing elbow injury.

The 21-year-old European silver medalist, who like Khan is widely tipped for medal success at London 2012, had travelled with the rest of the England team to their holding camp in Thailand but was unable to shake off the injury to compete in the 52kg flyweight division.

His absence is a major blow to the England boxing team’s hopes of matching the five gold medals they claimed in Melbourne Commonwealth Games four years ago.
