Hosts South Korea beat Latvia in straight sets to make a winning start to their Pool A campaign at the final qualification tournament for the 2018 Sitting Volleyball World Championships in Jeju.

The home nation triumphed 26-24, 25-17, 25-19 on the opening day of the men's event, which is taking place at the Sarabong Multi-Gym.

Today’s other match in Pool A saw Cambodia defeat Italy 25-11, 26-24, 25-15.

In Pool B, Thailand overcame Mongolia 25-15, 25-14, 25-10.

Action in Jeju is due to continue tomorrow.

The schedule for Pool A pits South Korea against Cambodia and Latvia against Italy.

Croatia go up against Thailand in Pool B. 

The women’s competition involves just two teams; hosts South Korea and Italy.

They will meet on three occasions with matches scheduled for Thursday (March 29), Saturday (March 31) and Sunday (April 1).

The competition is open solely to teams that have not already qualified for the 2018 World Championships, which are due to be held in The Netherlands from July 15 to 22 and will see 16 men's and 16 women's teams compete.
