Hosts Japan won the fifth and sixth place play-off in the inaugural International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Blind Football World Grand Prix in Tokyo today, defeating France 1-0.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow as Turkey and Russia play-off for third place before the final between group winners England and Rio 2016 Paralympic bronze medallists Argentina.

The latter will be favourites given their 100 per cent record at the Shinagawa Tennozu Park in the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic host city.

England lost their opening match against Japan but then beat Turkey 4-1.

When Turkey beat Japan 2-0 yesterday England were through to the final on goal difference.

Meanwhile, in the development tournament, India had a busy - and ultimately unsuccessful - day as they lost 2-1 to Belgium and then 2-0 to the Japan National Training Centre.

India’s victors will meet tomorrow in the final development match.
