Princess Anne visited the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) "Big Wednesday" event in Nottingham.

She was on hand as the University of Nottingham hosted 52 student finals in 14 different sports.

The British Royal Family member is no stranger to top class sport after competing at the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games in equestrian.

In addition, she serves as a member of the International Olympic Committee and is a patron of BUCS.

While in Nottingham, Princess Anne handed out medals at the volleyball final and watched squash, fencing and basketball.

"University of Nottingham Sport are absolutely delighted to have hosted the BUCS Big Wednesday event and to be have been able to showcase the fantastic facilities we have here at the University of Nottingham," said the University's director of sport Dan Tilley.

"It's a huge advantage for our sports teams to be able to compete in a finals on home soil and the thousands of fans that came to watch made the atmosphere electric."
