German luge athlete Julian von Schleinitz has announced his retirement from competition.
Von Schleinitz enjoyed a prodigious junior career, claiming six titles at the Junior World Championships.
He won three successive gold medals at the Championships in the men's singles competition, winning in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
The German would also earn a further three gold medals as part of the team event at the Championships.
However, Von Schleinitz never managed to qualify for the Winter Olympic Games during his career, which has now come to an end at the age of 26.
"After a long period of consideration, I have decided to end my career in sport," he wrote on Facebook.
"I will now be focusing on new challenges.
"I had a great time with you and all of my supporters during my time in competitive sport."
The German enjoyed a promising start to the senior ranks, securing a bronze medal at Winterberg on his World Cup debut in 2011.
He finished behind Italy's Armin Zöggeler and fellow German David Möller.
Von Schleinitz also won a Nations Cup race in Lake Placid during the 2015 to 2016 season.
