Krasnoyarsk schoolchildren from ages five to 11 have been given skiing lessons as part of the "From Theory to Practice" scheme as part of the preparations for the 2019 Winter Universiade.

The interactive lessons, which took place within the framework of the test events for the Games, were attended by athletes from Krasnoyarsk, including Pyeongchang 2018 competitor Marika Pertakhia, who spoke in detail about skiing and demonstrated their training programmes on film.

After the lessons, the schoolchildren watched the athletes in competition at the Bobrovy Log fanpark, allowing them to see the techniques they had just learned about in the lesson.

One of the students shared their impressions.

"Thanks to these lessons, we have the opportunity to get to know the athletes personally and ask them questions," they said.

"Today we were visited by Marika Pertakhia - she is a very open and honest person.

"We learned a lot of new things about winter sport and the end of the lesson there was a brilliant flashmob."

One of the teachers added: "In the past, we have had Universiade lessons and games.

"It is great that there is such an opportunity to teach and immerse students in sport.

The "From Theory to Practice" project coincided with the second test event of the 2019 Winter Universiade - the V. Zimik Memorial Cup of Russia, the country's national Alpine skiing competition.

More than 150 athletes took part in the event, which consisted of four disciplines - slalom, downhill, team parallel and giant slalom - all of which are on the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Alpine skiing programme.

Last year, at the first test event for Krasnoyarsk 2019, the 22nd Ski Orienteering World Championships, schoolchildren learned about the history, cultures and languages of countries participating in next year's Games.

The 2019 Winter Universiade is scheduled to take place from March 2 to 12.
