Sonja Janssen-Sahebzad, the chair of Taekwondo New Zealand's (TNZ) Central District Board, has hailed the success of a training camp held at Budo South Dojang in Tauranga.

The camp is said to have provided athletes with "optimal conditions to refine and improve their taekwondo skills and knowledge".

It integrated the technical and tactical components of taekwondo, along with components of sport science, in a bid to enhance the performance of its participants.

Additionally, the camp offered a chance for athletes to work with and learn from some of the best taekwondo coaches in New Zealand, including Master Dafydd Sanders, Sean Wells, Anthony Chan, Corey Shaw, Tracy Coleman, Andrew Brookes and Brice Nathan-Welch.

International referees and Oceania Taekwondo Union representatives, such as Master Garry Carpenter and Angela Caldwell, were also on hand to share their expertise.

"A big thank you to Master Garry Carpenter, Master Dafydd Sanders and last but not least our Sean Wells for their time and fantastic coaching skills," Janssen-Sahebzad said.

Among the athletes present were Megan Clark, Josh van Hooijdonk, Rosemary Minto, Connor Minto, Savannah Sutherland, Lee Walters, Joel Granitzer and Khayne Forster.

Joining them were Stella Bismarck, Finn Hennesey, Victoria Arsapan, Gleb Geinke, Abu Hamza, Blake Ward, Igor Kim and many more.

They all had the opportunity to receive in-depth training drills, technical instructions and feedback.

Similar events are due to be offered each year and on a regular basis across all TNZ districts.

They are aimed at athletes wanting to secure selection for the national team.

The next TNZ training camp is scheduled to take place in Wellington on May 27.
