Welsh Netball have unveiled the 12-strong team that will represent the country at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast next month.

Seven players selected for the last Commonwealth Games in Glasgow have been named on the roster for April's Games, including Suzy Drane, who is once again expected to captain the side.

Chelsea Lewis, who also competed at Glasgow 2014, is a somewhat surprise inclusion in the Gold Coast 2018 squad after saying she was taking a six-month break from international netball in January.

Other Glasgow 2014 team members in the line-up are Bethan Dyke, Kyra Jones, Nia Jones, Kelly Morgan and Cara Lea Moseley, who was vice-captain four years ago.

Fern Davis, Sarah Llewelyn, Georgia Rowe, Leila Thomas and Amanda Varey complete the selections.

The team is the first to be picked by interim head coach Julie Hoornweg, who started her role earlier this week.

Welsh Netball's head of performance Rosie Pretorius congratulated the athletes on their selection.

"We are extremely proud of this group of players and the hard work and dedication they give to the sport," she said.

"It was a tough selection and the long squad really pushed each other to raise their game and fight for their places.

"These athletes are great role models, all of whom have full time jobs, or are studying full time and dedicate so much time and effort to their intense training and match schedules."

"These players sacrifice so much and to be able to represent your country at a Commonwealth Games is the pinnacle of their netball careers which they all deserve.

"With a new management team and invigorated outlook, we know the squad will make us proud.

"We know our passionate and committed netball community will get behind the team and cheer them on across the pond.

"Good luck Team Wales."

Helen Phillips, chair of the Commonwealth Games Wales board, added: "Today's squad announcement is another exciting and important step in Welsh Netball's preparations for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

"Congratulations to all the players who have made it to the final squad.

"They will no doubt be looking forward to representing their nation with pride in Australia this April.

"We would also like to extend a warm welcome to Julie Hoornweg as interim head coach, and wish her and all the team at Welsh Netball the very best with the final preparations for the 2018 Games."

Wales have been drawn alongside New Zealand, England, Malawi, Scotland and Uganda in Pool B of the Gold Coast 2018 netball tournament.
