Gothenburg is preparing to stage the final event of the International Equestrian Federation World Cup Jumping Western European League.

Riders have travelled to the Swedish city with the hope of securing their places in the World Cup Finals.

A total of 18 spots are available to athletes in the Western European League.

The series standings are currently led by France’s Kevin Staut with 79 points.

Staut will hope to bounce back from disappointment in front of a home event in Bordeaux earlier this month, where an error saw him miss out on a jump off.

Staut still enjoys a 15 point lead at the top of the standings.

He is followed by Sweden’s Henrik Von Eckermann on 64 points.

The local rider will look to make an impression in front of a home crowd.

Von Eckermann will hope to hold off the challenge of Ireland’s Denis Lynch and Germany’s Marcus Ehning in the standings.

Both riders have 57 points to date and will hope to close the gap.

Competition is set to take place tomorrow in the Scandinavium indoor arena.

The World Cup Finals are due to be held in Paris from April 10 to 15.
