The United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee (NOC) have announced they have reviewed the final accounts for 2017 and approved budget estimates for 2018.

The budgets have been decided for several 2018 events, including the Asian Games in Jakarta and and Palembang the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

The Executive Committee have also endorsed the formation of an Executive Office of Schools Olympic Programme and Executive Office of National Sports Day.

Almost 2,000 students competed across nine sports at the most recent National Sports Day in Dubai.

The theme for that event was "The UAE Brings Us Together" and is aimed to depict the peaceful coexistence of the lands of the UAE.

The meeting of the UAE NOC also oversaw several committee changes with Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mahmoud selected as chairman of the Technical Committee whilst Ahmed Nasir Al Raysee was appointed chairman of the Olympic Planning Committee.

At the meeting, vice-president of the NOC Humaid Al Qatami stressed the importance of doubling future efforts in the interest of UAE sport.

"Challenges are only a means of realising our objectives through orderly conduct while keeping the interest of the nation at the forefront and turning efforts made into practical results," he said.

"Our leadership spares no effort in supporting citizens in various fields and lending them unlimited support that helps them rise to the highest levels."

The United Arab Emirates won their first-ever Olympic medal at Athens 2004 thanks to Ahmed Al Maktoum's gold medal-winning performance in the shooting event.

Judoka Sergiu Toma secured the nation's most recent medal when he claimed bronze at Rio 2016.
