A proposal to move the dates of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games forward one week has reportedly been approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board.

A report by L'Equipe and AFP today claims that the Olympic Games should now take place from July 26 until August 11.

The Paralympic Games are then due to follow from August 28 until September 8.

Original plans had been for both events to take place one week later.

This proposal has not yet been officially confirmed and consultation is still due to take place with International Federations.

A suggestion to make such a shift was made by the IOC Evaluation Commission during its visit last year.

A major reason was because the initial timeframe for the Paralympic Games came after the end of the school holidays, which will now be avoided.

This will make it easier in terms of both transport and accommodation.

Paris 2024 should now be free to use the Porte de Versailles for both the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

"In close collaboration with its stakeholders and government agencies, Paris 2024 conducted a comprehensive study on the impact of a change in dates, addressing all operational aspects (transportation, security, spectator experience, logistics, etc)," said Paris 2024 in a statement.

"The study, which proposed to advance the Games by one week, was welcomed by the International Paralympic Committee as well as the IOC, who approved it during its Executive Board meeting in Pyeongchang."
