Tove Alexandersson and Erik Rost ensured Sweden claimed the mixed sprint relay title on day two of the European Ski Orienteering Championships at the Starina Alpine Skiing Centre in Velingrad.

They completed the course in a total time of 47min 19sec after three runs each with eight-time Ski Orienteering World Championship gold medallist Alexandersson's fifth leg time of 6:48 the best leg time of the day out of the 50 competitors from 25 countries.

Finland, whose team consisted of Marjut Turunen and Tuomas Kotro, recorded a time of 47:58.0 to secure silver.

Russian pair Anastasia Kravchenko, an eight-time European Championship medallist, and Sergey Gorlanov finished just one second behind in the bronze medal position.

A total of 105 athletes from 19 nations are taking part in this event Bulgaria, which doubles as the second round of the International Orienteering Federation Ski Orienteering World Cup.

Tomorrow is due to see the athletes compete in a middle-distance race.
