Wiles crashed hard during the International Ski Federation World Cup race in the German resort yesterday after trying to recover her line in the middle of her run.

She was transported to hospital via helicopter for an evaluation.

The 25-year-old finished third in the World Cup downhill in Cortina d'Ampezzo last month and had been considered a outside medal hopeful.

Lindsey Vonn, whose Foundation financially supports Wiles, will lead the US downhill team after winning yesterday in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

"We are all extremely disappointed that Jackie suffered this injury so close to the Games," Luke Bodensteiner, US Ski & Snowboard chief of sport," said.

"It’s a big loss to our Alpine ski team, especially after her very strong results this season. 

"We will do everything we can to support her in her rehabilitation and we’re already looking forward to seeing Jackie back in competitive action, stronger than ever, as soon as possible."

The women's downhill race is scheduled for February 21.

It has not yet been determined if Wiles' spot will be replaced under the team quota.
