The official pools have been decided for the rugby sevens tournament at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, following a draw at Robina Stadium.

The draw, overseen by World Rugby, saw 16 men's teams drawn into four pools of four whilst the eight women's teams were divided into two pools of four.

The men's draw saw the four top ranked teams in the competition allocated into each pool before random draws were conducted for each band - five to eight, nine to 12 and 13 to 16 - of the remaining teams based on their current World Rugby rankings.

Only the top ranked team from each men's pool will advance from the group stages.

Hosts Australia have been paired with rivals England in Pool B of the men's tournament, with Jamaica and Samoa also involved.

South Africa, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Malaysia will play in Pool A with New Zealand, Canada, Kenya and Zambia in Pool C.

Olympic champions Fiji will meet Wales, Uganda and Sri Lanka in Pool D.

Australia, the Olympic champions, will meet Fiji, England and Wales.

New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and Kenya will contest Pool B.

The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the semi-finals.

The pool matches will get underway at Robina Stadium on April 13 before the semi-finals and medal matches take place on April 15, the final day of the Games in Australia.
