Both athletes were selected following a vote by the ISSF Coaches Advisory Committee, the ISSF Athletes' Committee and a selected panel of media representatives.

Tomoyuki has now won the prize twice after first scooping it in 2010.

The 42-year-old won World Cup Final gold in New Delhi last year, triumphing in the men's 10 metre air pistol.

He also won the opening World Cup leg of the season in the Indian capital, and claimed silvers on the circuit in Munich and Gabala.

In the two New Delhi events he set world records - first registering 240.1 points and then scoring 241.8 in the World Cup Final in October.

"I feel honoured," said the Japanese marksman. 

"To win this prize is an honour, and I will keep the memory of it as one of the most valuable moments in my career as a shooter and in my life."

Istvan Peni of Hungary came second in the men's vote with Ukraine's Istvan Peni third.

Rhode also won World Cup Final gold in New Delhi in the women's skeet event.

The triple Olympic gold medallist had earlier claimed World Cup wins in New Delhi and Acapulco, and was second in Larnaca.

She hit 56 targets at the World Cup Final to equal the world record.

"It feels amazing," said the 38-year-old. 

"It's been actually an incredible year for me, I worked so hard leading up to it, and it's great to see it all come together."

China's Yuemei Lin was second in the vote with Jessica Rossi of Italy third.

Both winners will receive their trophies when the ISSF's 2018 season begins with a World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, from March 1.
