Kyung Sung-hyun has reportedly filed a last-ditch court injunction in a bid to reverse his controversial omission from the South Korean Alpine skiing team for next month's Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

The Korean Ski Association (KSA) did not select Kyung to represent the nation at the event, which gets underway with the Opening Ceremony on February 9.

Their decision came despite the 27-year-old, who competed for South Korea at the 2014 Games in Sochi, claiming he is the top-ranked giant slalom Alpine skier from the host country.

Kyung was also the only Alpine skier to take part in the launch ceremony for the South Korean team at Pyeongchang 2018 last week.

He then found out just a few hours after participating in the event that he had not been selected.

According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, Kyung has claimed the KSA failed to follow the correct procedure when choosing their four-person Winter Olympic Alpine skiing team.

He alleges the KSA Technical Committee held a meeting without the chairman and did not comply with the voting rules.

Yonhap has reported Kyung has filed an appeal with the Seoul Eastern District Court to prevent the decision of the KSA from being implemented.

The national governing body for the sport in South Korea instead chose technical specialist Jung Dong-hyun and downhill skier Kim Dong-woo as the men's representatives for the Games in Pyeongchang.

The KSA are the latest organisation in the country to be embroiled in controversy with just over a week until the Olympics are due to begin.

Last week, the Korea Skating Union banned a coach for life after he admitted assaulting Olympic gold medallist Shim Suk-hee.
