Tunisia earned sweet revenge in the final of the African Men’s Handball Championships in Gabon as it beat the defending champions Egypt, 26-24.

The Tunisians thus reversed the result of the last final in 2016, when Egypt came from behind in Cairo to win 21-19 and earn a sixth title that took them through to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Here the roles were completely reversed as Egypt took a 15-13 half-time lead in their match at Le Palais des Sports de Libreville in Gabon, only to fall to a late charge by their opponents.

It was Tunisia’s 10th Africa men’s title.

Earlier in the evening Angola secured the bronze medal by defeating Morocco 29-26.

Two matches earlier in the day saw the hosts secure fifth place with a 24-23 win over Algeria, and Congo take seventh place with a 24-23 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This event acted as the African qualifying tournament for the 2019 Men’s World Handball Championship that will be held in Denmark and Germany.
