Lin Dan suffered another disappointing first round defeat today as the Badminton World Federation Indonesia Masters continued in Jakarta.

The two-time Olympic champion lost his first match at the Malaysia Masters last week, and was similarly unsuccessful this time around at Istora Gelora Bung Karno.

The fifth-seed Chinese was beaten 21-15, 21-19 today by Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand.

Top seed and world champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark required just 33 minutes to progress through his opening match, 21-13, 21-7 against Hsu Jen Hao of Chinese Taipei.

Reigning Olympic champion and third seed Chen Long also won comfortably today.

The Chinese beat Denmark's Anders Antonsen, 24-22, 21-10. 

Top seed Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei was given a stern examination in the corresponding women's singles draw against Michelle Li of Canada.

Tai lost a marathon first set before eventually prevailing against the Commonwealth Games champion 23-25, 21-12, 22-20.

Spanish third seed and reigning Olympic champion Carolina Marin emerged victorious 21-13, 21-13 against Dinar Dyan Ayustine of Indonesia elsewhere today.

Marin won 21-13, 21-13 in 34 minutes.

Action is due to continue tomorrow.
