Johannes Lochner was crowned winner of the four-man bobsleigh World Cup title, despite piloting his crew to a fourth place finish at the concluding event in Königssee.

Lochner’s fellow German Nico Walther also celebrated success at the final event of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation World Cup season.

His crew, which included Kevin Kuske, Alexander Roediger and Eric Franke, posted the fastest runs on both times down the course.

They clocked 48.51sec in their first run, before sealing victory with a second effort of 48.70.

It gave the quartet a combined time of 1min 37.21sec.

Latvia’s Oskars Melbardis led his crew of Daumants Dreiskens, Arvis Vilkarste and Janis Strenga to second place in 1:37.57, just 0.31 seconds off the pace off the winners.

The podium was completed by Austria’s Benjamin Maier, Kilian Walch, Markus Sammer and Danut Ion Moldovan.

They achieved a combined time of 1:37.57 from the two runs.

Lochner missed out on a podium finish as he could on guide his crew to a final time of 1:37.62.

He was still able to celebrate securing the overall World Cup title, having ended the eight competition season on 1,652 points.

Lochner was followed by fellow Germans Francesco Friedrich and Nico Walther, who ended on totals of 1,468 and 1,421 respectively.
