Dutch skater Sjinkie Knegt and Italy’s Martina Valcepina earned double gold on the second day of the European Short Track Championships in Dresden.

Knegt produced an impressive performance in the men’s 1500 metres final at the Sportpark Ostragehege.

The Dutch star achieved a time of 2min 14.886sec to top the standings, with Russia’s Semen Elistratov settling for second place in 2:14.942.

Israel’s Vladislav Bykanov rounded off the podium places, earning bronze in a time of 2:15.432.

Knegt doubled his gold medal tally by triumphing in the 500m competition, as he raced to victory in 41.377.

He was followed by Russia’s Victor An and France’s Sebastien Lepape, who secured the minor medals in times of 41.441 and 41.608.

There was an Italian one-two in the women’s 500m competition, as Valcepina powered to victory in a time of 42.805.

She was followed by her compatriot Arianna Fontana, who managed a time of 42.852.

Russia’s Sofia Prosvirnova took the bronze in 43.141, with the Netherlands’ Lara van Ruijven finishing fourth after being penalised by the officials.

Valcepina emerged as the winner of the women’s 1500m, with the Italian claiming a second gold in a time of 2:36.889.

The Netherlands’ Yara van Kerkhof earned the silver medal in 2:37.373, with Hungary’s Sara Luca Bacskai securing bronze in 2:37.689.

Competition is scheduled to conclude tomorrow.
