Sweden's Victor Oehling Norberg and Sandra Naeslund delighted the home crowd by topping the respective men's and women's standings on the opening day of qualification at the International Ski Federation Ski Cross World Cup in Idre Fjäll.

Oehling Norberg finished first in the men's event ahead of France's Francois Place and Switzerland's Alex Fiva.

Current World Cup leader Marc Bischofberger of Switzerland came 13th, while second-placed Terence Tchiknavorian of France ended up 30th to just about ensure his place in the 32-man final rounds on Saturday (January 13).

Sweden's Viktor Andersson, who occupies third position in the World Cup standings, finished 10th.

In the women's event, Naeslund came out on top ahead of Canada's Georgia Simmerling and France's Alizee Baron.

Germany’s Heidi Zacher, who sits in second spot in the World Cup standings between leader Naeslund and third-placed Simmerling, came ninth.

A total of 16 women qualified for their final, which like the men's will be held on Saturday.

Qualification for the second final, which is scheduled for Sunday (January 14), is due to take place tomorrow.

The event in Idre Fjäll is the penultimate Ski Cross World Cup before the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Nakiska in Canada is due to host a two-day event on January 19 and January 20.
