Skiers and snowboarders will be hoping to boost their Pyeongchang 2018 qualification prospects at the latest International Ski Federation (FIS) Freestyle World Cup in Snowmass.

The event, in the United States, is poised to begin tomorrow and will run until Saturday (January 13).

It will mark the first time the largest of the four mountains in Aspen are hosting a FIS World Cup competition.

Skiers and snowboarders are scheduled to compete in halfpipe and slopestyle competitions.

The competition will be the penultimate chance for athletes to qualify for Pyeongchang 2018, with the international qualification period concluding on January 21.

It is also the latest step in the United States’ trial process, with three athletes having already stamped their tickets to the Winter Olympics.

Halfpipe star Chloe Kim has proved dominant in the women’s World Cup so far and will be among the favourites to claim gold in Snowmass.

She will then set her sights on earning the Olympic title.

Reigning women’s slopestyle Olympic champion Jamie Anderson has also booked her place at the Games, while Chris Corning will represent the US in the men’s team.

Slopestyle qualification at the World Cup is due to begin tomorrow, with halfpipe being the focus the following day.

The slopestyle finals will then take place on Friday (January 12), before the World Cup concludes on Saturday with the halfpipe events.
