Fiji Netball President Wainikiti Bogirdau has said the organisation are set to invest around FJD$180,000 (£65,000/$88,000/€74,000) to boost their team’s efforts at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The money will also be used to help the team's build-up towards the 2019 World Cup.

Fiji are one of 12 teams set to compete in netball competition at Gold Coast 2018, with their team due to face hosts Australia, Barbados, Jamaica, South Africa and Northern Ireland in Pool A.

England, New Zealand, Malawi, Scotland, Wales and Uganda will compete in Pool B.

The team have begun a training camp in preparation for the Games, before a run of friendly fixtures.

"About 22 athletes will go into a five-day training camp at Pacific Harbour focusing on fitness, strength, mental skills, ball skills and team building activities," said Bogirdau, according to the Fiji Times.

"The team has an intensive programme for the next three months leading up to the Commonwealth Games."

Their friendly matches will be against New Zealand, Jamaica and Malawi in March, with the Games taking place the following month.

Bogirdau claimed the run of fixtures would prove crucial as Fiji seek to develop their netball team in the build-up to the World Cup next year.

"Along with matches to be played at the Commonwealth Games, all these international games are a crucial build-up for the Netball World Cup 2019 campaign," she said.

"It is inclusive of qualifying our team for this premier event.

"The qualifiers will be held in Auckland after the Commonwealth Games.

"In the past, we have provided financial support for our affiliates who have directly sought our assistance, subject to availability of funds."

The 2019 Netball World Cup is set to take place in England.
