France have targeted back-to-back top five finishes on the Winter Paralympics medals table at Pyeongchang 2018.

The French team enjoyed multiple successes at Sochi 2014, where they achieved a total of 12 medals at the Games.

It included five golds, three silver and four bronze, which saw them finish in fifth place in the final standings.

Alpine skier Marie Bochet proved the star for the team by skiing to four gold medals.

Last month she was named as France’s flag bearer for the Pyeongchang 2018 Opening Ceremony.

Bochet is one of their main medal hopes for the Games, as France aim to at least equal their position from Sochi 2014.

“In Sochi we got five gold medals and we finished fifth at the nations ranking,” said Emmanuelle Assmann, President of the French Paralympic Committee.

“We have the ambition to do as well in Pyeongchang and everyone is working hard to achieve it.”

Skier Arthur Bauchet is among the French athletes who have been tipped for success at the Games, following the teenager’s impressive displays at the World Para Nordic Skiing Championships.

He earned two gold medals and a silver at the Championships to emerge as a major Paralympic medal contender.

Bauchet will hope to replicate the form in the build-up to the Games.

Sochi 2014 snowboard silver medallist Cécile Hernandez is also named in the Pyeongchang 2018 squad.

Fellow snowboarder Maxime Montaggioni is also included.

The French delegation will be led by Assmann, with French Handisport Federation President Frédéric Delpy expressing his view that they could potentially exceed their Sochi 2014 medal haul.

“In the wake of France’s success at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games, the expectations and the excellence levels required have naturally increased,” Bauchet said.

“It is about matching that performance and even exceeding it.

“To achieve this, the Federation has implemented optimal conditions with ambition and precision.

“This push toward achievement is strongly supported by the State and by the Ministry of Sports, which I would like to express my gratitude to, as well as by the French Paralympic and Sports Committee with whom we were able to generate effective synergies around a shared objective.”

The Pyeongchang 2018 Paralympic Games are due to take place from March 8 to 18.
