Junshiro Kobayashi topped the qualification standings at the third event of the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck.

Ski jumpers were forced to brave challenging conditions in the Austrian city, with wind and rain meaning only one training round was held.

Kobayashi proved untroubled by the elements, with the Japanese jumper achieving a distance of 131 metres.

It gave him a total of 145.9 points, placing the 26-year-old at the top of the standings.

Poland's Kamil Stoch continued his impressive form, following victories at the opening two events of the tournament in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, both in Germany.

The double Olympic and world champion secured 142.8 points to finish second during the qualification event.

He was followed by Richard Freitag, who managed 142.4 points.

The German currently lies second in the Four Hills Tournament standings, but will hope to close the gap to Stoch tomorrow.

"It was a bit wet in the first training round, but after the break in the qualification, it was okay," said Freitag.

"It was not easy, but it was nice that we could jump today."

Competition will take place tomorrow, before the final Four Hills event takes place on Saturday (January 6) in Bischofshofen, also in Austria.

Each event counts towards the International Ski Federation Ski Jumping World Cup season standings, which Freitag leads.

Stoch is aiming to defend the Four Hills title, having triumphed last year.
