Olympic gold medallists Serbia made it two wins out of two in the European preliminaries as action continued today in the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Men’s Water Polo World League.

The reigning champions beat Montenegro 7-4 in front of a home crowd in Niš.

It follows their 12-3 victory over Romania last month.

Serbia now have six points in Group A, while Montenegro and Romania both remain on zero.

In Group B, Russia defeated Germany 12-11 after a penalty shootout on their visit to Dresden.

The two teams could not be separated in regulation time with the score standing at 8-8.

Croatia continue to lead Group B on three points, followed by Russia with two and Germany with one.

Today’s Group C action saw Hungary overcome The Netherlands 13-6 on their trip to Alphen aan den Rijn.

They are now level with Spain on three points, while the Dutch are yet to get off the mark.

The third round of the European preliminaries are due to be played on January 16.

The Netherlands will play Romania at home, while Germany and Hungary play host to Croatia and Spain respectively.

After the conclusion of six rounds, the four best teams will qualify for the Super Final, which is due to be held from June 18 to 23.

The European teams will be joined by four other sides who have qualified from Intercontinental Tournaments.

Serbia have won the FINA Men’s Water Polo World League title five times consecutively since 2013.
