Some of the worlds best swimmers will be vying for titles at the European Swimming League (LEN) European Short Course Championships at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen from December 13 to 17.

Great Britain’s Adam Peaty, who has won eight European championship golds, will enter his events as favourite and leads a strong British team, which also includes 2014 Commonwealth Games champion Ben Proud.

Three-time Olympic gold medallist Ranomi Kromowidjojo will also be at the championships, representing The Netherlands in the women's 50 metre and 100m events.

Also in attendance will be Spain’s Mireia Belmonte, the Rio 2016 Olympic champion in the women's 200m butterfly event.

Hosts Denmark, who are considered the best team in European swimming, will also bring an incredibly strong squad to the Royal Arena.

At the last 18 European short course events, the Danish team claimed a total of 83 medals whilst they also secured several medals in long course events at the most recent European and World Championships as well as at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

However, Denmark will be missing 29-year-old Jeanette Ottesen, who won gold at the 2016 World Short Course Championships in the 50m butterfly event, as she is expecting her first child in December.

The venue for the competition, the Royal Arena, usually serves as a concert hall but has been converted into a temporary swimming pool especially for these championships.

19,000 tickets for the event have already been bought by people from 28 different countries.

The five-day event will see athletes compete in 50m, 100m and 200m races for all four strokes, as well as 400m freestyle, 200m and 400m individual medley, 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle events.

There will also be single sex and mixed 4x50m freestyle and 4x50m medley relays.
