South Korea set a world record for the women’s compound team ranking round as action begun today at the 2017 Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka.

So Chaewon, Choi Bomin and world champion Song Yun Soo scored a combined total of 2,108 points out of a possible 2,160 at the Bangladeshi capital’s Bangabandhu National Stadium.

It was 13 points higher than the previous world record mark set by the United States in Shanghai in China in 2011.

"It was a bit windy today but that made us competitive," top-scorer So, who added 10 points to her career international best with 709, said.

"The most crucial factor was our preparation.

"We practised almost perfectly all year.

"Our coaches coached us well and I’m very thankful to them."

Choi scored 703 points, while Song managed 696.

India finished second with 2,089 points and were followed in the standings by Chinese Taipei with 2,055.

The fourth member of the South Korean team, 2015 world champion Kim Yunhee, posted 694 points.

So, Choi and Song finished third as a team at last month’s World Archery Championships in Mexico City.

Top seed So has claimed individual medals in both team and mixed team events, but is still searching for her first individual victory.

She secured her first podium finish at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taiwan’s capital Taipei, where she won the bronze medal.

"[I need to keep doing what] I did today in the qualification round," So said.

"I have to concentrate on myself, care about nothing else and not be greedy."

This year’s Asian Archery Championships are offering cadet quota places for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires.

Action in Dhaka is due to continue tomorrow.

Competition is set to conclude on Thursday (November 30).
